Description

"Huis Van Brienen" is a canal house in #Amsterdam (Noord-Holland), reaching its current form during major renovations in 1728-1733. Originally built around 1620, it was transformed into a lavish Louis XIV-style residence by David Rutgers. In 1781, Arnold Johan van Brienen purchased the property and gifted it to his son Willem Joseph, later mayor of Amsterdam under Louis Napoleon, who updated some interiors around 1782 (Louis XVI style) and 1833 (late Empire style). The exterior features a fine Bentheim sandstone façade in late Régence style, and the richly decorated grand reception room includes original 18th-century furnishings.
