"Het Peperhuis", built in 1625 in #Enkhuizen (Noord-Holland), the Netherlands, was originally a merchant's house commissioned by Pieter van Beresteyn, likely profiting from the herring fishery, as indicated by two facade stones referencing this trade. In 1682, the Dutch East India Company (VOC) purchased the building, using it to store pepper and other Asian spices, which led to its current name. After the VOC's decline and dissolution in 1799, the Peperhuis served various functions, including as a naval storage facility and later as a cheese warehouse. In 1913, seed company Sluis & Groot acquired it, and in 1947, they transferred it to the Zuiderzeemuseum.
