The "Freiburger Münster" in #Freiburg, began construction around 1200 under Duke Berthold V of Zähringen on the site of an earlier 1120 church. It started in late romanesque style, shifting to gothic by the 1230s. Construction spanned over 300 years until completion around 1513. Its standout feature is the 116m west tower with a unique openwork stone spire (completed ~1330). The interior showcases high gothic elements: slender pillars, flying buttresses, and light-filled vaults. It survived WWII bombings largely intact and became a cathedral in 1827.
