"Château de la Bretesche" in #Missillac originated as a 14th-century fortified stronghold of the Barons of La Roche-Bernard. It was rebuilt in the 15th century by Jean de Laval, featuring defensive elements like moats on three sides and a large lake on the fourth. Besieged during the Wars of Religion (1591), it was damaged and largely destroyed by fire in the French Revolution (1793). Reconstructed in the 19th century in a romantic neo-gothic/neo-renaissance style (influenced by Viollet-le-Duc), it now displays turrets, towers, crenellations, and a picturesque lakeside setting on a crenellated terrace.
