The City Council of #Donostia is a Belle Époque building in the Alderdi-Eder gardens, overlooking La Concha Bay. Originally the lavish Gran Casino, it was designed by architects Luis Aladrén and Adolfo Morales de los Ríos (inspired by Monte Carlo), and inaugurated in 1887. It featured eclectic/neo-classical elements with ornate facades, domes, and a monumental staircase. Gambling was banned in the 1920s; the building served as a hospital during the Spanish Civil War. Architects Alday and Arizmendi adapted it in 1943, and the City Council moved there in 1947 from the old Plaza de la Constitución site.
