The "Steinhaus" in #Wirdum is a former fortified stone house from the mid-16th century. Built in brick, it exemplifies late medieval Frisian "Steinhäuser": defensible residences of chieftains (Häuptlinge) in the North Sea region. Features include preserved original masonry, a distinctive late gothic stepped gable on the south side, an upper chamber and a cellar.
