"Reichsburg Cochem" in #Cochem, a hilltop castle overlooking the Moselle River, was originally built ~1000 AD as an imperial fortress by Palatine counts, later under Holy Roman Emperors and Trier archbishops. Destroyed by French troops under Louis XIV in 1689, it lay in ruins until Berlin businessman Louis Ravené rebuilt it in neo-gothic style (1868-1877), incorporating some late-gothic remains into a romantic structure with towers, battlements, and ornate interiors.
