Typology: refuge house
The "Refugie van Sint-Truiden" is a historic refuge house of the Benedictine Abbey of Sint-Truiden, located in #Mechelen (Antwerpen). In the 16th century, canon Willem Sarens renovated an existing house with tower into a city palace, serving as his residence and a safe haven for the abbey, whose abbot was his brother. Sold in the 17th century, it later housed magistrates of the Great Council. In 1921, Antwerpen Province acquired and restored it for the archdiocesan archives and administration, near the Archbishop's Palace.
