Description

The "Grand-Poste" in #Verviers (Liège), Belgium, is a monumental former post office built 1904-1909 and inaugurated in 1910. Designed by Ghent architect Alphonse van Houcke in eclectic neo-gothic-renaissance style, it features a towering ~80-90m spire with a 275-step spiral staircase, rich facades with allegorical sculptures, putti, lightning motifs, and a grand entrance perron flanked by heraldic lions bearing Verviers and Liège arms. Symbolizing the city's wool industry prosperity, it was saved from 1980s demolition by citizen mobilization.
