Description

The "Koepoort" (once "Warmoespoort", later "Nederwijkpoort") is a rare surviving 14th-century gothic city gate in #Ninove (Oost-Vlaanderen). Destroyed in 1462 and rebuilt, it was remodelled around 1600 and served as the city prison from 1629. Restored in the late 19th century (keystone dated 1895), the brick gate has a pointed-arch passage, saddle roof, two polygonal towers with hexagonal spires, loopholes and a central niche. The street-side façade features a large arch flanked by restored shoulder-arched doors, four tall pointed windows and stepped gables.
