"Kasteel van Lovendegem", located in #Lovendegem (Oost-Vlaanderen), was originally the seat of the Van Lovendegem family from the 13th or 14th century. It passed to Philip the Good in 1462, and later to Joos Triest after Charles V sold its contents in 1550-1552. In 1700, Gillis Dons acquired it, becoming Baron Dons de Lovendeghem in 1716. The family retained ownership for centuries. In 1918, Baron I. Dons de Lovendeghem was murdered there. Initially a donjon, the castle was expanded in the 17th century with a northern wing and chapel by Joos Triest. In 1721, Gillis Dons added a right wing and new facade. Modified in 1858 and 1888, it features an eclectic style with a moat, stone bridge, and 1888 gatehouse. Service buildings, rebuilt in neo-gothic style in 1858, and a memorial chapel mark the site of the baron’s murder.
