"Het Steen", a castle in #Elewijt (Vlaams-Brabant), Belgium, also known as "Rubenskasteel", originiated in the 11th century as a motte-and-bailey castle to defend Grimbergen. It became a stone fortress by 1300. In the 14th century, it was fortified against Brabant. Peter Paul Rubens bought and restored it in 1631, living there for five years. His famous painting "Herfstlandschap met uitzicht op het Steen" depicts its surroundings. Later, it served as a state prison in 1792.
