"Château de Durbuy" is the iconic centerpiece of #Durbuy (Luxembourg), Belgium's "smallest city", perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Ourthe River valley. First built in 889 AD for strategic defense, it evolved from a medieval fortress into a renaissance residence by the 15th century, with added comfortable quarters. The town, first documented in 1078, grew around it as a trade hub. It endured fires, wars, and destruction, including razing by French troops in the 17th century. Rebuilt in 1731 by Duc d'Ursel, it remains private property of the d'Ursel family, closed to the public.
