Description

The "Hof van Savoye" or "Palace of Margaret of Austria", in #Mechelen (Antwerpen), Belgium, is a key 16th-century renaissance building, one of the first in the Low Countries. Originally a city palace of Hieronymus Lauweryn, it was expanded from 1507 for Margaret, Governor of the Netherlands (1507-1530). Rombout II Keldermans led a second construction phase (1517-1530), enhancing the Keizerstraat facade. The palace, damaged in 1546, later housed the Great Council of Mechelen (1616-1795). In 1876-1885, Leonard Blomme restored it in neo-renaissance style.
