Nieuwe Toren

Description

The "Nieuwe Toren" in #Kampen (Overijssel), the Netherlands, is a freestanding bell tower constructed between 1649 and 1663 on the site of the former Heilige-Geestgasthuis chapel, which burned down in 1646. The stone base was designed by master carpenter Dirck Jansz from Edam, while the lantern was crafted by architect Philips Vingboons, possibly intended originally for Amsterdam's town hall. The tower houses a carillon, primarily cast by François Hemony in 1659/62, featuring 30 bells, 29 of which remain.
