Description

"Kasteel Nijenborgh", also known as "Huis Op de Biest", is a 15th-century moated castle ruin in #Weert (Limburg), the Netherlands, once the main residence of the Counts of Horn. Built by Jacob I van Horne between 1455 and 1461, it featured a rectangular main castle with four towers and a fortified courtyard. Destroyed in 1702 during the Spanish Succession War, only remnants of the towers and gatehouse remain. In 1841, the manor house Op de Biest was built on the ruins. The castle was home to notable figures like Filips van Montmorency, executed in 1568.
