"Huis met de Kogel" ("House with the Cannonball"), a national monument with a wooden facade in #Alkmaar (Noord-Holland). Named after a Spanish cannonball from the 1573 Siege of Alkmaar, allegedly lodged in its wall, the story of preacher Jan Arentsz and seven unharmed occupants might be a myth, per 2020 research. Built likely before 1573, its wooden facades overhang, with each floor on consoles. Its tapered front and smaller base reduced taxes. Only the Appelsteeg side has a shopfront. Itâ's one of Alkmaar's two remaining wooden houses.
