"Het Toreken" is a monumental building in #Gent (Oost-Vlaanderen). In the 14th century, fur and wool workers traded in a wooden structure there. In 1422, tanners bought it, rebuilding it in stone by 1450. A lookout tower with a mermaid-shaped weathervane, Melusine, was added in 1483. Also called Huidevettershuis and Meerminne, it was sold to Floreyns van den Driessche in 1550 after Charles V ended guild power.
