Description

"Kasteel Rijckholt", located in the village of #Rijckholt (Limburg), originated as a medieval square residential tower. This tower was destroyed in 1485 and promptly rebuilt with walls two meters thick. In 1682, the de Bounam family acquired the castle and constructed the main wing, flanked by two perpendicular wings with helmet roofs matching that of the tower. The left wing housed a chapel dedicated to Saint Rumbold, adorned with stucco ceilings and family monograms. Excavations in 1961 uncovered remnants of an additional wing with a small tower. The estate also includes an 18th-century coach house and a chalet-style hunting lodge built by the Regout family. Originally surrounded by a double moat, only the moat around the main building remains today.
