Description

"Castle Den Dool", also known as "Ter Dolen Castle", is a 16th-century castle located north of #HouthalenHelchteren (Limburg), Belgium. It originally served as a summer residence for the abbots of the Abbey of Sint-Truiden, first mentioned in 1282. In 1340, Abbot Amelius of Schoonvorst stayed there during conflicts with the people of Liège. The castle was damaged and rebuilt several times, notably in 1522 by Abbot Willem of Brussels, who fortified it with walls and towers. Later renovations in the 17th and 18th centuries gave it a classicist U-shaped design.
