"Nidaros Cathedral" in #Trondheim was built over the burial site of St. Olav, the Viking king who Christianized Norway. Construction began in 1070 as a stone church, evolving over 230 years into a grand structure completed around 1300. It blends romanesque and gothic styles, featuring an octagonal chancel, a striking west front with rose window and statues and soapstone construction. Once the largest Nordic church, it suffered repeated fires and decay. Major 19th-20th century restorations revived its medieval glory. It's the world's northernmost Gothic cathedral.
