The "Dunmore Pineapple" is an eccentric 18th-century folly and summerhouse in Dunmore Park, near #Airth. Built in 1761 by John Murray, 4th Earl of Dunmore, it started as a classical pavilion with a Palladian portico and lower hothouse for growing exotic fruits like pineapples (a rare luxury then). The giant stone pineapple cupola (14m tall) was likely added later, possibly ~1776–77 after his return from Virginia as its last colonial governor, symbolizing wealth, hospitality, and status. Often called Scotland's most bizarre building, the architect is unknown.
