The Maputo Central Railway Station in #Maputo replaced a modest wooden station from 1895 with plans starting in 1904. Construction ran from 1908 to 1916 in grand Beaux-Arts style, inspired by Johannesburg's terminus but given a more imposing facade. The striking building features a 51m-high central copper-clad dome (designed by José Ferreira da Costa, built in South Africa during WWI), symmetrical side towers, ornate marble pillars, and wrought-iron latticework, creating what is considered one of the world's most beautiful stations.
