Description

The moated "Kasteel Ten Torre" in #Oedelem (West-Vlaanderen), Belgium was once a French royal hunting ground with a pavilion, it is first mentioned in 1353 as "Goed ten Torre". Gifted by the French king to Charles V in 1529, it changed hands multiple times. The current castle, built in 1854 by Hector baron Lebailly on the pavilion's foundations, features red brick with stone bands, four hexagonal corner towers, a high slate roof, arcades, and an open gallery. Around 1895, architect Stefaan Mortier restored it in Viollet-le-Duc style, adding the portal, loggia, lookout tower, and expanded park and pond.
