The former Belgian Customs Office in #Zelzate (Oost-Vlaanderen), built on the right bank of the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal at the Dutch border in 1910. Designed by Brussels architect Josse Van Kriekinge, commissioned by the Ministry of Agriculture and Public Works, and constructed by local contractor Victor Gouwy. It is a striking, symmetrical eclectic public building in vibrant materials: Boomse brick with abundant blue hardstone for the plinth, arches, pilasters, and friezes; high slate roofs, stepped gables, and ornate dormers. The seven-bay façade features a grand round-arched arcade, iron-grilled windows, the Belgian coat of arms, and corner pavilions with balustraded balconies.
