The "Von Clermonthuis" in #Vaals (Limburg, the Netherlands, is a grand 18th-century mansion-factory built 1761-1765 for Lutheran cloth manufacturer Johann Arnold von Clermont by Aachen architect Joseph Moretti. Designed in Liège-Aachen baroque with neoclassical touches, it combined luxurious living quarters, offices, and a wool dyeing/finishing plant powered by the constant 10°C Gouwbeek spring. Originally a closed courtyard complex, it drove Vaals’ textile boom until the family firm collapsed in 1825.
