The "Broeltorens" are significant medieval structures in #Kortrijk (West-Vlaanderen), Belgium. The southern tower, known as the "Speytorre", was constructed in 1385 to monitor traffic on the river Lys and was part of the fortified enclosure of the first castle of the Counts of Flanders. The northern tower, called the "Ingelborchtorre", was built in 1415 and served as an armory. These towers are among the few remnants of Kortrijk's medieval city fortifications, with most other fortifications having been destroyed over the centuries. A statue of John of Nepomuk, the patron saint of the drowned, stands on the bridge connecting the two towers.
