Description

"De Burght" is a medieval castle in Heer, now a #Maastricht (Limburg) neighborhood. Originating as an 11th-century donjon (first mentioned in 1070), it belonged to the Sint-Servaas chapter and served as provost residence and prison. Destroyed in 1408, rebuilt, burned in 1578, and restored, it survived wars and ownership changes. Seized in the French era, it later saw modernizations (1776, 1857, 1931). The moated, three-story structure retains 13th/14th-century foundations with thick walls; gardens include baroque statues and ancient trees.
