The former Spa bathhouse ("Anciens thermes de Spa"), in #Spa (Liège), Belgium, was designed by architect Leon Suys and opened in 1868. Spa's iron- and carbonated-water springs made it a renowned spa destination since the 16th century. By the 19th century, its baths and casinos attracted the international bourgeoisie. In 1862, Mayor Joseph Servais commissioned Suys to design a grand bathhouse, costing 1.5 million Belgian francs. Designed in French neo-renaissance style, the two-story building features a large plinth, two front staircases, and ornate interiors.
