The "Grote Kerk" or "Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk" in #Breda is built in typical Brabantine Gothic style. This cross-basilica replaced earlier structures: a wooden church around 1100 near Breda's castle (a proprietary church of the local lords), followed by a tufa-stone one from ~1116, first documented in 1269 and elevated to a collegiate church in 1303. Construction of the present church began in 1410. The choir came first, then the nave, side aisles, and transept. After the old tower collapsed in 1457, the iconic 97-meter tower rose from 1468 to 1509. The church was fully finished in 1547, just before the Reformation brought iconoclasm in 1566; it became definitively Protestant in 1637.
