The "Sint-Janskathedraal" in #DenBosch is widely regarded as one of the crowning achievements of the Brabantine Gothic style. Its harmonious gothic interior reflects a consistent style maintained throughout construction from the late 14th to early 16th century. The exterior bursts with late-gothic decoration, featuring double flying buttresses lined with 96 seated figures, abundant reliefs, and around 600 sculptures overall. It replaced a romanesque church begun around 1220 and finished by 1340. Gothic rebuilding started circa 1370 after its 1366 elevation to chapter church, with the choir likely completed by 1415, transept by 1470, and nave by about 1530; the old structure was largely demolished by 1505, though parts of its tower survived due to funding shortages, causing visible improvisations like uneven vaults and narrower western windows. Elevated to cathedral in 1559, it stands as a five-aisled cruciform basilica.
