Description

"Kasteel van Breda" in #Breda (Noord-Brabant) began as a 12th-century fortress. In 1353, Jan II van Polanen fortified it, and through marriage in 1403, it passed to the House of Nassau. John IV expanded it around 1460. In 1536, Henry III of Nassau started its transformation into a renaissance palace, completed by René of Chalon with a chapel in 1540. William I of Orange inherited it and used it during the Dutch Revolt. The Treaty of Breda was signed here in 1667. William III expanded it into the "Prinsenhof" in the late 1600s.
