The "Stadsgevangenis" (city prison) in #Enkhuizen (Noord-Holland) was built in 1612 behind the town hall for short-term detention before trial or punishment, as long-term imprisonment was costly. The tall, narrow brick building has three floors, each with two oak-lined cells, iron bars, and heavy wooden doors. The lower cells date from 1592; the rest were added around 1610. Due to soft ground, the building began leaning early and was stabilized in 1903. Many original features remain, including torture tools and a hatch for chamber pots.
