Description

"Kasteel Baesveld", located in #Loppem (West-Vlaanderen), Belgium, was originally a heathland acquired around 1800 by the Van Outryve de Merckem family. Patrice de Coninck, minister under King William I, built a hunting lodge there between 1815 and 1830. In 1830, the estate passed to Aloïs de Vrière, and his son Adolphe de Vrière expanded it into a castle from 1850 to 1852. Further additions included an orangery in 1867, a chapel in 1873, and a northwest corner tower in 1894. Financial difficulties led to its sale in 1899 to Gaston de Kerckhove d'Ousselghem. The castle, built in red brick in Flemish neo-renaissance style, features a double staircase and is surrounded by an English landscape park with ponds and winding paths.
