The "Hofje van Mevrouw Van Aerden" is a courtyard in #Leerdam (Utrecht), The Netherlands. Established in 1770 following the will of Maria Ponderus, widow of Pieter van Aerden, it provides housing for unmarried Protestant women. Maria Ponderus, who outlived her three childless children, specified in her testament the creation of this hofje. Although she resided in The Hague, Leerdam was chosen due to the presence of less affluent Van Aerden family members and the availability of land from the House of Orange.
