Pater Vincktoren

Description

The Pater Vinck Tower, originally known as the "tower behind the Feilzusters" or "tower near the Swesteren," is a 14th-century wall tower in Maastricht, Netherlands. It was part of the city's second medieval fortification and is located in the Faliezusters Park, which is part of the Maastricht City Park. The tower was likely completed around 1370. In 1906, architect Willem Sprenger restored the then-ruined tower, modeling it after the Wycker Powder Tower. The name "Pater Vinck Tower" honors Franciscan Servaes Vinck, who was executed in 1638 following the "Treason of Maastricht." Today, the tower, along with adjacent city wall remnants and a nearby water gate, forms a frequently photographed ensemble in the Faliezusters Park.
