Description

The Castle of Westerlo, also known as Kasteel de Merode, is located in Westerlo, Antwerp, Belgium. In 1484, it became the property of the House of Merode, who still reside there today. The castle's donjon was constructed by the Lords of Wezemaal, likely in the late 14th century, featuring massive walls approximately 2.75 meters thick. The interiors boast 18th-century gilded leather adorning the salons, while the knight's hall and private chapel were decorated in the 19th-century neogothic style. The castle is not open to the public.
